Stand up on the BBC

posted by admin in Uncategorized

The Beeb has always been a major backer of comedy talent in the UK; from stand-ups to genre-defining sitcoms and everything in between the BBC has done more than its fair share to promote new comedians and try and give them their big break. Since BBC3 launched when digital TV came on the seen, the Freeview channel seems to have embraced their role as the place for new comedy shows – even if some of them haven’t always quite hit the mark!

Seasons of Comedic Fruitfulness

Like Christmas, Halloween is an excellent reason to have a night out at a comedy club. Obviously, pretty much every other day of the year is also an excellent reason to have a rib-cracking night out watching a comedian. But Halloween and Christmas seem to really inspire the comedy promoters to put on extra themed nights so you’ve no excuse not to go out and get your chuckle on. And your fancy dress on, if you so choose.

Nattily dressed comedians

When it comes to comedy, the best kind of stuff should be side-splitting. The kind of stuff that should have you laughing so hard that you’ll put a tear in the very best of your three piece suits. After all, everyone has a better laugh when they’re all dressed up and looking plenty dapper.
What is it about funnymen in dressy outfits? There’s something about a fancy suit or spiffy set of shoes or a bright tie that draws More

Fringe Fun

August is nearly upon us, and that means only one thing to fans of comedy; the Edinburgh Fringe. A veritable smorgasbord of comedy talent, ranging from the usual sketch shows, stand-ups and plays to some of the more surreal efforts that make it into the program every year. My friend has already tipped a pair of comedy ballerinas to be one of the big Fringe hits of 2011…

Lead Balloon A Hidden Gem

I currently don’t own a television, which is mainly down to the fact that my live in landlord refuses to have one in the house but also due to the fact that I never really watch a huge amount of television. If there is a program I think I might enjoy I’ll buy the DVD boxset and watch it in my own time and not the time a television programmer has decided I should religiously set my schedule to enable More

Jessica Fostekew has been performing improvised comedy since 2005, but in 2008 she made the leap to stand up and after success in numerous comedy competitions (she was the Comedy Cafe New Act Winner 2009 and was a Leicester Square Theatre Competition 2009 Finalist) she hasn’t looked back. Her experience as an improviser and also as an actress is obviously a help on stage as she has a very confident presence, but unlike some actor turned comedians Jessica is totally More
